:: Harvest Gathering ::
with the Garden Pod
Saturday, November 7th, @ Noon
The Garden Pod is looking forward to a gathering of reflection, future thoughts and celebration!
We will get together at 10 am, as usual, to work and harvest in the garden. This is an energetic time for all to put love and work into the soil, the plants and our relationships.
It has been a beautiful and bountiful season! After the work party, at high noon, we look forward to holding a Harvest Gathering. During this time, we will share a potluck lunch of autumnal dishes and trade preserved garden goods.

We’re even hoping to light up the new cob oven and collaborate on making some tasty pizzas and calzones!

This will be a grand time for everyone to reflect on the season, share thoughts for the future and enjoy the fruits of our labour.

Atlan Village Building Convergence

Special thanks to all who came out for Atlan’s 3rd Annual Village Building Convergence!
During this event, Bernhard Masterson led the construction of a cob oven that now sits under a beautiful timber framed roof made with cedar from the Atlan forest by our crew of builders. There was a dedicated group of 5 steadily working with the cob, joined periodically by a larger group of VBC participants. We felt fully engaged with the materials as we stomped and squished the clay mixes with our feet and hands.
On Sunday afternoon, our Atlan Community drum circle came to the Medicine Wheel to energize those of us building the oven. On the last day, the hearth was fired up and we happily baked delicious pita bread.
Next time…pizza!

Evergreen Students Visit Atlan

The Adventure Travel and Ecotourism class at Evergreen State College visited Atlan Center earlier this month. They are studying specific organizations in these industries involving large multinational companies as well as small independently owned business and their role and impact within their respective environments.
“Our trip to Atlan was a great example for us to see first hand a developing business and community with the intention to create a more harmonious and conscious way of living… Indeed, for all those fortunate enough to visit Atlan and experience what they have to offer, you will be stepping into what I believe to be the new frontier of culture and sustainable living.” – Spencer O’Neal
Thanks Spencer for bringing the class to Atlan! We look forward to building on these special relationships.

Visit to Hyla Woods for Forest Stewardship Inspiration

Our Atlan Land Management Pod had the opportunity to visit for a comprehensive tour of the Hyla Woods with Peter Hayes. There we took inspiration for forest management practices that model productive regenerative forestry practices. Have a look at their website, hylawoods.com, for inspiration and stay tuned for more on Regenerative Forestry at Atlan!

The Living Bus Project
:: Launch Party ::

Dozens of community enthusiasts joined The Living Bus Project for its 501c3 Launch Party on September 25th. The party was held by its creators Bill, Melissa and Paige Myers who opened the doors to their unique home for the first night of the Atlan Village Building Convergence. A great local IPA was provided by Pfriem Family Brewers which paired well with the wonderful display of art from local fine artist Jazz-minh Claire Moore & photographer Michael Bittner.

Atlan Community Garden:
*Community Garden Hours:  Saturdays 10 am

The garden has been providing an impressive bounty of beautiful and nourishing food for our community. We’ve been harvesting beets, beans, carrots, tomatoes, kale, summer and winter squash.
We are very grateful that our amendment center has been moved. Tucked in behind the beautiful new cob oven and under an amazing timber framed roof, this temporary placement will provide shelter from the wind and rain during the saturating seasons. It even gives us a place to dry our bokashi! Which is now ready and available for pick up at the amendment station.

The greenhouse walls have gone up in order to “battened down the hatches” over the south beds. This will prolong our summer loving veggies! While, the uncovered north vegetable beds are planted with cool season crops which will last through the crisp fall months. We are excited to see how long the garden will continue to produce and provide for our community!
