..::What we’ve been up to::..

Medicine Wheel: Deep bows to the hard work and miracle of making the Medicine Wheel together over Spring Equinox.
This will be a teaching circle and gathering place to learn about medicinal and culinary herbs and flowers, the Wheel of the Year, the 4 Elemental directions and how many ceremonial traditions may weave together.The synergy of shared purpose over Equinox through the hours of measuring, scraping, shoveling, scotch broom removing, rock carrying, raking and food preparing, morning yoga, evening music and sauna…..was heart opening, community building and awesome~!
We look forward to the many Celebrations and Ceremonies to come, where we will gather at the Medicine Wheel, ever remembering what magic we create when we create together.
Get to Know Your Forest: On April 4th, our friends at Underwood and Wasco Conservation Districts brought four presenters together for a “Backyard and Small Scale Forestry” workshop at the Artifactory. They covered a full breadth of forest management topics, providing numerous resources to support local area residents in understanding forest health, management and planning. There will be another similar “Forestry 101” class hosted in Mosier Thurs April 16th at 6pm (contact karen.lamson@or.nacdnet.net).
Stay tuned for related Permaculture & Eco-Forestry workshops!
Trail Creation: We are working on refining our trail network to connect special sites across Atlan’s 150 acres. A new trail connects the Artifactory with the site of our future Learning Center.
Trail marking and mapping ahead: Please save aluminum can tops/bottoms as we will be repurposing them as decorative trail blazes.
Atlan Community Garden: The Spring Garden is prepared and welcoming the Sun. Raised beds for berries and potatoes are in creation and we are getting the back berm ready for an elderberry grove and wildflowers.  The compost tea brewer will be brewing its first round of the year for the seedlings next weekend.  Soon a flow-through worm bin will be next to the brewer. We have fresh batches of Bokashi compost accelerator. *Just ask if you’d like to take some home. The greenhouse doors are also now open to allow more breeze to flow through.  The greenhouse will be rolled to its Summer season position in about two weeks to begin warming the soil for next round of summer plantings. An updated new bulletin board will make it easy for garden pod members to contribute the minimum of 4 hours per month. *Let us know if you’d like participate and become a garden member!
Thank you to the many hands tending the growth of the garden, especially to the efforts of Oma and Rob Roy.Welcome CultureSeed Interns:
Eilidh and Paul. We are blessed to have your awesome assistance in the garden and beyond. Cheers and Thanks!
